They said they were from BT, telling me my data usage was high and that messages were being sent worldwide. They gave me some fancy security ID to enter on a website. I've been receiving calls from this number enquiring about a Mr Thomas, who obviously isn't at my address. After a brief chat, they hang up without any explanation. Does anyone have any advice on how I can put an end to these annoying calls?

18/08/2016 Got a call today at about 3pm claiming to be doing a survey on my Bosch washing machine, which I don’t even have. The guy kept going on even after I told him to stop and then I just hung up.

Received a call earlier today; my husband picked it up. The individual on the other end had a noticeable Indian accent and inquired if he was Mr. -----. My husband replied in the affirmative, and then the caller promptly disconnected. Quite peculiar!

I've had a second call from them today, and usually, I just tell them to shove off. This time, though, I asked what they wanted, and the chap inquired if I had private health insurance. I said no, and then promptly ended the conversation.

Didnt know the number at all. I said hello and it took ages, like 15 seconds, before someone picked up so I figured it was probably a scam. Eventually, an Indian woman came on the line and when I tried telling her she’d just woken up my four kids, she just talked over me without even letting me finish. Felt like she was determined to have the last say. Didn’t happen though - I just ended the call.

They said they were from Hotpoint and asked about our appliance. I said it was fine and then they just ended the call. I rang Hotpoint after to check and they said that number isn’t theirs at all. Sounds like a scam, but I’m not sure what their angle was. I’ve blocked the number now so hopefully it stops there.

We've just contacted the police about this number. The caller was really rude and used bad language towards an elderly lady.

That silent pause you get is because auto diallers ring about 8 numbers simultaneously, but the operators, even those based in India or Pakistan, can only chat with one person at a time, so the rest are left waiting! The government really ought to tackle this, but what can they do about calls from abroad? It does make a mockery of the TPS, but remember how our own government(s) have allowed UK firms to keep ringing if they had any previous contact with the person. So, if you bought a window from Anglian Double Glazing decades ago, Anglian Home Improvements can still ring you now.

I recently had a rather peculiar phone call from this number. There was quite a long pause before anyone answered, so I decided to stay quiet. Eventually, a voice with a strong foreign accent chimed in, asking quite rudely, “Why did you answer the phone, you fool?” Honestly, it makes you wonder why people like this don’t bother seeking out proper jobs instead!

8th August 2016. A guy with an Indian accent called, wanted to talk to my husband by his name. Claimed he was from Hotpoint; we dont have any Hotpoint stuff, so I asked him to say it again and then spell it out, then he just ended the call.

Got a call from a blocked number earlier today. We got ourselves a BT8500 Advanced Call Blocker phone and honestly, it’s done the trick - no annoying calls since. It’s great if you’ve got caller ID; you can block hidden numbers, overseas calls and all that. Plus, you can set it so it only rings for numbers saved in your contacts. If it’s someone not saved, they have to say who they are before you pick up! And if they’re annoying, you can just block them straight away too.

Got a call from an Indian woman trying to sell me stuff, but when I asked her what it was about she just hung up. She’s called me like 4 times over the last couple of days.

Got a call after hours. When I asked who was calling, she said it was some kind of service from central London. I asked again for the company name and she just repeated herself. She kept telling me to listen, but I asked twice to speak to a manager since I’m on the TPS list. Then she just cut me off.
