April 2014 - I’ve recently had a rather unsolicited phone call from a chap claiming to represent the Telephone Preference Service, trying to peddle a call-blocking device. He introduced himself as Martin, though his accent was distinctly Indian. He provided me with a number to ring back if I wished to register complaints regarding continual nuisance calls from India. Thankfully, I played it smart and didn’t engage any further with the conversation-my instincts tell me I’ve dodged a right dodgy scam!

I recently received a rather dubious call from this number. They claimed to be located in Londonderry! The chap on the other end had an unmistakably Asian accent but introduced himself as 'David Thomas.' Rather suspiciously, he requested all my card information, saying it was for 'verification purposes.' He even insisted on getting the all-important digits from the back of my card! This is undeniably a scheme - a classic scam artist, if you will. A thief, a conman, or whatever term you prefer to use. Just for the record, the number he provided was the one I called back, which was 0016077954626 after I pressed ‘1471.’

Received a call from this number, claiming to represent The Telephone Preference Service. They mentioned they had my credit card details and requested the expiration date to "verify my identity". I was rather dubious, so I quizzed them on how the TPS acquired such sensitive information, as I had never provided it. I managed to prolong the chat for about 15 minutes and it turned out they were attempting to sell me a call-blocking device, which I already possess. Interestingly, my caller ID indicated it was an international number, and BT informed me they have no capability to block such calls.
