On Friday 12th August 2022, around 4.38pm, I got a call from 02825777029 on my mobile. Didn't have a clue who it was, so I ignored it. The phone rang about 8 times then stopped, and they didn’t leave any voicemail.

It was a scam, so I went ahead and blocked the number.

Somebody rang me saying they were from O2, trying to get me to take a 45% discount on my phone bill. When they asked if I was interested, I told them no, and when they wondered why, I said I didn’t trust that they were really with O2. Then they just hung up.

The number showed it was from Ballymena, but the person on the line had a really thick Asian accent (which doesn't always mean they're not actually from Ballymena, of course). She was trying to offer me a 40% discount on my O2 bill, but I told her I don’t even have O2. Then she tried to get me to answer some security questions, saying she could still lower my bills regardless... sounded a bit dodgy to me.

This afternoon I got a call on my mobile from a number claiming to be Ballamena, Northern Ireland. Since I don't have any mates or contacts up there, and it wasn't saved on my phone, I just ignored it and didn’t answer. After looking it up here, it seemed pretty obvious it was a scam. These scammers are so annoying, they keep ringing me all the time. Saw a bunch of replies here, maybe like 15 or so, full of tips on how to deal with them. I’ve come to realise just blocking numbers is pointless because I end up getting calls and messages from loads of other different numbers anyway. I’ve jotted down the advice people shared and planning to give some of those methods a go soon to see if anything actually helps.

This scammers using fake UK phone numbers that are probably made by computers are really annoying. They might be ringing from anywhere around the world but it's hardly ever from the UK itself. When I block one number, they just come back calling me on loads of other numbers. Someone actually shared tips on how to report these sort of scams, which was helpful.
