Got a call today from some dodgy scammers claiming our water bill hadn’t been paid since August 2023. My other half actually gave them our postcode and his birth date while she was asking security questions, all before I told him to hang up - the woman’s name was Daria, I think. What’s weird is they rang our old landline that’s not even in any directory anymore…how did they get through? It’s not a scam or anything dodgy. It’s a third-party firm hired by Severn Trent. They usually say they're Severn Trent themselves instead of saying they’re acting for them. They call because of unpaid bills. I asked them to only contact me from their proper number, but they don’t listen, so I just don’t bother answering now. If you get calls like this, best to ring Severn Trent directly and sort a payment plan out with them.

If they need to get in touch, it'll be through an official letter or an email. Nobody’s going to phone you out of the blue to ask for payment details or any private info like that.
