Got a call from this number, some bloke with a foreign accent talking really fast. Claimed he was from Barclays, even dropped my full name which freaked me out a bit. Absolutely avoid these scoundrels like the plague! It’s a complete con. Take a good gander at the full number; you’ll notice there are two different phone numbers crammed together, separated by a comma. One portion actually belongs to Barclays Bank, so do check against the number on your card's reverse. The remaining digits, though? They're dodgy and not affiliated. I’m puzzled as to why BT doesn’t seem to have the means to tackle this with their AI capabilities. Just makes you think, doesn’t it?

SCAM ALERT. Checked with Barclays and this number is defo not theirs. They claimed someone used my card to spend £1000 at Argos, then asked for my sort code and account details. I just ended the call straight away. Honestly, it was a rubbish try - the caller sounded nervous and there was fake background noise.

Got a woman on the phone who sounded quite posh, saying someone had paid £1,00 from my Barclays card. She mentioned needing to do security checks but I told her if it was really the bank, they’d already have my info and would just block the payment. Things didn’t feel right when she mentioned a £1,000 unauthorized payment - I don’t even have that much in my account, no overdraft either. Definitely a scam call, watch out!

Got a call from a friendly woman claiming to be from fraud alert about a £1180 purchase at Homebase. I got a bit anxious since I didn’t make that purchase, and she said we needed to verify some security details. I told her it could be difficult as I was driving, and then she just disconnected. Had a woman claiming to be from Barclays ring me up about a £699 charge at Debenhams, asking if I knew anything about it. She came across as quite sharp and sincere, way more convincing than your typical scam call, which threw me off a bit. She didn’t ask for any bank or card info, just said she'd block my card and send me a replacement. Feels like they’re just prepping me for another call. I checked with Barclays and it’s definitely a scam. Watch out, folks!

I got a call from someone saying they were from Barclays Fraud department. They told me there was a flagged payment of £800 to BMW Dublin. They used my full name to sound legit. They keep ringing my husband, saying his card’s been used fraudulently and now blocked. After the last call, we got in touch with Barclays who confirmed it was a scam. Today they called again, and honestly, the bloke’s got some nerve. When asked for my husband’s mum’s maiden name, he gave a wrong one. When called out, he just said that’s what the system’s showing. Then he told us to hang up and check the number he was dialling from, to call him back. Obviously, they’re faking Barclays’ number. I reckon more trusting folks would fall for this easily.

If the person claiming to be from Barclay actually worked there, they’d recognise that this is indeed a real Barclay’s Bank number. Sadly, numbers like this, especially from banks, get spoofed all the time. Take a look at Barclay’s message above the caller map if you’re unsure. The best thing to do when anyone says they’re from your bank is to hang up straight away, wait for the line to clear, and then ring your bank back on the number printed on your card.
