I just received a call where an automated voice claimed I was involved in legal action with HMRC and that my home was being watched. A few weeks back, I got a similar call from a different number (01280 827640), and I told them to buzz off. Without a doubt, this is a scam. They've been doing this for more than a month now.

Got a scare last week from someone claiming to be the tax office. They were really pushy and trying to make it sound serious, but it felt totally like a fake call threatening me. Such a dodgy scam!

On 8th March 2018, at about 10:54, I got a recorded message claiming to be from HMRC saying my house was being watched and I had to ring 02382148121 straight away. When I called back, they said my wife was involved in tax fraud and I owed £738, which I had to pay with a credit card. I told them I’d check with HMRC myself, and then they just hung up on me. Now I can’t even get through to that number again. Watch out - this is definitely a scam. I’ve reported it to HMRC.

Got a call this month from what sounded like HMRC's legal team, but it was obviously a total scam. The voice was definitely a computer, saying my home was being watched and telling me to ring a certain number back. I received a call purporting to be from HMRC, but the language used was so inappropriate, it raised my eyebrows straight away. Heads up, got a recorded message claiming to be from HMRC saying my house is being watched and I’d be arrested if I didn’t ring back. Obviously, it’s a scam trying to trick you into giving your credit card info. This isn’t isolated - seems to be happening worldwide. Stay careful!
