There’s a few good reasons to avoid ringing back random numbers. First off, you might end up chatting with a scammer. Also, some calls can get diverted to expensive premium lines without you realising it - that’s the wangiri scam at work. Plus, scammers generate loads of fake UK numbers, so sometimes the call might actually belong to someone harmless who’s just caught up in it. If you get dodgy calls, make sure to report them through Action Fraud’s phishing reporting page.

Got a call from an unknown number, so I tried calling back straight away. Some woman answered and said I’d got the wrong number. Strange!

Got a call on my mobile but no message was left, so I didn’t bother picking up.

What a bother! Yet again, I'm dealing with the usual time-wasters. I’ve been receiving a slew of calls from this region, and the numbers are nearly mirror images of one another!

In the last three days, I've received a total of six calls from numbers that are almost identical to this one. They all share the same eight-digit sequence, with just the final three digits varying. When I picked up this particular call, there was a lot of commotion in the background, and the voice came through a bit muffled. From what I could gather, it was regarding some sort of consultation, though I have no clue what it pertained to. I requested that they take my number off their list, and to my surprise, they just cut the call straight away.

Totally sketchy, I just went ahead and blocked the number.

My daughter, who’s underage, got a call on her emergency phone from this number but since nothing showed up on caller ID, she didn’t pick up. I’ve messaged whoever’s calling to get in touch with me, and I’ve also tried calling back but no luck. Because it’s a strange number, I’m treating it with caution.
