She claimed it’s been going on for four years. When I probed her about which console it was, she simply replied that it’s just listed as a ‘games console’. To top it off, she mentioned I’m due for a renewal, even though I’ve never even arranged any cover myself! The console in question wasn’t purchased from Argos in the first place. I blocked the call using Call Guardian so it didnt even ring. After seeing the comments here it’s clear this was a dodgy scam. What’s really worrying is hearing some folks say the callers knew their name and that they actually had a policy with that company. I reckon those people should get in touch with the insurance firm and let them know their details are being passed around to crooks and used in scams. I’ve also gone ahead and reported this number to Action Fraud.
