Got an automated ring from someone saying they were from HMRC at about 8:50 in the morning. They claimed I'd got a legal matter ongoing and that there was a warrant out for my arrest. They gave a phone number to call back and told me to press 1 to talk to my case officer right away. Tried calling the number but it didn't show up as a legit one.

Just got a call from someone saying they were from HMRC at 11:42 this morning, claiming the police were on their way to arrest me for tax evasion. It just didn’t make sense - why would they warn you beforehand? If I really had done something wrong, why wouldn’t I just try to avoid it? It’s obviously a scam, don’t fall for it and just hang up. About 30 mins ago, my mate got a call just after 1.45 pm from someone named Wilson, said he was from HMRC. He told her she owed £5000 and needed to pay right away. If she didn't, he warned the police would come arrest her within three days. She was absolutely scared stiff. Tried calling back the number but it just says ‘number not recognised’.
