Phone number ☎️ 02086387734 👆 is reported as a persistent scam originating from a phone number falsely claiming to be from HMRC. Callers use threatening automated messages, often with unnatural accents, warning of urgent legal action or tax debts and demanding immediate payment. Victims have described the calls as intimidating and highly convincing, with some fraudsters referencing personal details or even involving supposed police threats. Genuine HMRC communications, however, are typically sent by post, not by phone, and would never use aggressive language. Many advise not to return the calls and to report them directly to HMRC and authorities. Vulnerable individuals are at risk of being misled, so vigilance and caution are strongly recommended to avoid falling victim to these scams.

They said it was HMRC but I’m really sceptical about any automated calls. Whenever I get one, I call up the actual office to check if they’ve sent anything like that, and most of the time they haven’t. Honestly, be careful with these sort of calls!

I've just received a rather menacing voicemail that seems to have sinister intentions. It's imperative that this gets investigated and the culprit is brought to book; I certainly won’t be taken in by this sort of trickery...

Got a voicemail from a woman claiming to be Claire Williams at HMRC, sounded completely robotic and was a recorded message warning me that if I didn’t ring them back I'd be in trouble with the law. Honestly, these dodgy scammers are really pushing it nowadays. I was so shocked I played the message again just to make sure I’d heard right. I looked up the 020 8xxx xxxx number local to London and it's not legit. Definitely notifying the real HMRC about this one.

Got a message like this earlier and I nearly freaked out. After a moment, I figured it was just another scam though. The funniest bit has got to be them saying "Goodbye and take care!!" - like that makes it sound legit or something!

I got a recorded call from someone saying they were Claire Williams at HMRC, telling me to ring them back straight away. It sounded a bit dodgy since HMRC usually doesn’t leave messages like that, so I just ended the call and looked it up here. Pretty clear it was a scam.

I’ve just had a run-in with the same situation - received a rather menacing voicemail. Decided to ring back and a chap picked up. He claimed to be from HMRC and even asked for my name along with its spelling. Naturally, I grilled him again, “Are you genuinely from HMRC?” and he insisted that he was. He then inquired if I had a case number. I replied, “Well, you called me first, so I’m in the dark here.” I mentioned I’d never had any prior contact from HMRC and that I would be looking into it further before I abruptly ended the call. Following that, I typed the number into Google and stumbled upon this page, discovering that many others had encountered this same scamming attempt.

Just like everyone else, I got a call from some bloke called John Anderson, claiming I was dodging tax or something. He told me I'd be nabbed, my bank accounts frozen and everything taken off me. I told him to chill, I’m no gangster and my taxes are all sorted, then I slammed the phone down on the muppet!

This same number rang me earlier. I got in touch with my local HMRC office and they said they’d forward the number to their fraud department.

We've received a second call in just two days, insisting that we contact the HMRC on this number within a specific timeframe, or else face legal repercussions. There must be a method to put an end to such harassment. It’s quite concerning for those who might not realise it’s a scam-especially the more vulnerable individuals-who could be coerced into paying these extortionists.

Got a missed call from 02086387734 and then a voicemail with some American sounding robot voice warning me about prosecution. Felt like I was in some sci-fi film! HMRC would never call like that or threaten you over the phone. This is definitely a dodgy scam, complete con job. Watch out, folks!

Got a message from some automated voice claiming to be Claire Williams from HMRC. It was one of those pre-recorded warnings telling me to ring them back or else I’d be in trouble. Pretty sure HMRC doesn’t even have my mobile number, they usually write to me in letters. From the start, I knew it was dodgy - total SCAMMERS!

Got a missed call earlier with an automated message saying to ring Claire Williams at HMRC asap, within a week. Thought I’d check it out here before doing anything - turns out it’s a total scam. Someone here mentioned a good idea to report these phishing calls to HMRC, so I’ll be doing that.

Today, I received a message that echoes the previous ones, threatening me with some serious legal trouble if I don’t get back to them! Personally, I’m quite sceptical about their legitimacy, especially since it’s coming from a robotic American voice and the notion of legal action seems a bit far-fetched. I highly doubt it’s from the UK tax office!

This smells like a total scam to me, do not get caught out. HMRC would never ring you up with such a threatening voicemail like that. If you think you must call back, ask them for their ID number and which office they’re from, then say you’ll confirm with the police first. I’d be willing to bet they’ll just drop the call straight away.

Beware of this number, it's a total scam. They rang me up pretending to be from HMRC, saying I owed VAT and threatening legal consequences if I didn't pay right away. It sounded legit at the time, and unfortunately they tricked me out of £11,000.

I received an alarmingly aggressive call that purported to be from HMRC, warning that it was 'time critical'. They insisted that ignoring their call would lead to 'serious legal repercussions'. So I got a missed call and I phoned back, some bloke calling himself Mr John Anderson said he was from HMRC. He was going on about me owing tax from the past five years and said I was under investigation. I just laughed it off. Then he got all shouty, saying it wasn’t something to joke about and threatened to have me arrested. I laughed again, and he went on saying the police would be there soon to take me in before hanging up. Haha, what a terrible scam, he really messed with the wrong person. I actually work as a fraud investigator! :)

I received a voice message purporting to be from HMRC, suggesting I urgently return the call. The accent struck me as distinctly American, which raised a few eyebrows. The final line was particularly odd, warning me to expect "legal repercussions" if I didn’t act forthwith. It sounded nothing like the official HMRC tone. If they ever resort to such language, I think I'll be packing my bags and heading for the hills!

My landline rang earlier and when I answered, some automated voice claimed I was under investigation for dodging tax. Neither me nor my husband, who both pay through PAYE, were ever named. Tried ringing them back yesterday but the call kept dropping. Just phoned again a bit ago and someone answered as HMRC but spoke with a strong Indian accent. Quite suspicious if you ask me.
