Got a voicemail from a woman claiming to be Claire Williams at HMRC, sounded completely robotic and was a recorded message warning me that if I didn’t ring them back I'd be in trouble with the law. Honestly, these dodgy scammers are really pushing it nowadays. I was so shocked I played the message again just to make sure I’d heard right. I looked up the 020 8xxx xxxx number local to London and it's not legit. Definitely notifying the real HMRC about this one.

Got a message like this earlier and I nearly freaked out. After a moment, I figured it was just another scam though. The funniest bit has got to be them saying "Goodbye and take care!!" - like that makes it sound legit or something!

I got a recorded call from someone saying they were Claire Williams at HMRC, telling me to ring them back straight away. It sounded a bit dodgy since HMRC usually doesn’t leave messages like that, so I just ended the call and looked it up here. Pretty clear it was a scam.

I got a voicemail just like that the other day, all threatening and stuff. When I rang back, some bloke picked up straight away and said he was from HMRC. He wanted my name and how to spell it, which felt a bit off. So I asked if he was genuinely from HMRC and he said yes. Then he asked if I had a case number, but I told him I had no idea what this was about since he was the one who called me first. I also mentioned I’ve never had a call from HMRC before, said I’d look into it, then ended the call. After that, I searched the phone number online and ended up on this page, seeing loads of others reporting the same dodgy scam.

Just like everyone else, I got a call from some bloke called John Anderson, claiming I was dodging tax or something. He told me I'd be nabbed, my bank accounts frozen and everything taken off me. I told him to chill, I’m no gangster and my taxes are all sorted, then I slammed the phone down on the muppet!

We've been rung twice in two days now by this number, saying if we don't get in touch with HMRC through them soon, legal trouble's on the way. It’s really worrying. There’s gotta be some method to block these calls. Honestly, it’s the more vulnerable people who don’t realise it’s all a con who end up getting tricked and paying these scammers.

Got a message from some automated voice claiming to be Claire Williams from HMRC. It was one of those pre-recorded warnings telling me to ring them back or else I’d be in trouble. Today, I received a message that echoes the previous ones, threatening me with some serious legal trouble if I don’t get back to them! Personally, I’m quite sceptical about their legitimacy, especially since it’s coming from a robotic American voice and the notion of legal action seems a bit far-fetched. This smells like a total scam to me, do not get caught out. HMRC would never ring you up with such a threatening voicemail like that. If you think you must call back, ask them for their ID number and which office they’re from, then say you’ll confirm with the police first. I’d be willing to bet they’ll just drop the call straight away.

So I got a missed call and I phoned back, some bloke calling himself Mr John Anderson said he was from HMRC. He was going on about me owing tax from the past five years and said I was under investigation. I just laughed it off. Then he got all shouty, saying it wasn’t something to joke about and threatened to have me arrested. I laughed again, and he went on saying the police would be there soon to take me in before hanging up. Haha, what a terrible scam, he really messed with the wrong person. I actually work as a fraud investigator! :)

Don’t fall for this, it’s a total scam! HMRC never ring you up, they always send letters if there’s an issue. I got a text like this back in December 2018 and now again today, 09/01/2018. If you want, you can report it straight to HMRC at [email protected]. Stay safe!

Got a voicemail that claimed to be from the tax office and it was definitely a SCAM. It told me to call back 0208 638 7734 but don’t do it! Total HOAX. They even tried to scare me saying I'd get in trouble if I didn’t ring them back. So annoyed!

That call genuinely scared me. Folks who aren't in the best health could really be at risk from something like that. Whoever's behind it needs to be tracked down and properly dealt with by the authorities. There’s no doubt it was one of those automated voices.

My landline rang earlier and when I answered, some automated voice claimed I was under investigation for dodging tax. Neither me nor my husband, who both pay through PAYE, were ever named. I’ve received two calls now from this number. The message is pretty much the same each time - they claim there’s an urgent problem and say they're from HM Revenue and Customs. The caller, supposedly Officer Claire Williams, rings from 02086387734 and warns that if you don’t ring back or your solicitor doesn’t get in touch, there will be serious legal trouble. They finish by telling you not to ignore it and to take care. It’s obviously just a scam but I can imagine it would really frighten some folk.
