Got a call from 020 8144 6693 about a supposed refund because my bank was overcharging me. They kept saying it wasn’t a scam since they didn’t ask for any personal info. Said they’d send a Government solicitor with a cheque today, and all I needed to do was cover the tax on the amount. Spoke to a guy called Jim, who sounded Asian. I told him I’d check with my husband first and get back to him. He told me to call 020 8638 6719 with extension 0196. I looked up the number afterwards and saw loads of warnings like the ones here. So, is this some kind of con or did I just miss out?

So, I got a voicemail from someone claiming to be Officer Grey, saying it was really urgent and I shouldn't ignore it. This is actually the second time now I've received this kind of message. I just decided to get rid of it and put the number on my block list!

Got the same thing today - a recorded message telling me to ring back straight away. So I did, and an Indian bloke just picks up saying it's HMRC. Then he goes on about an investigation and asks if I’ve got a lawyer. Problem is, I hadn’t even said my name, so how’s he doing all that? I could hear someone whispering nearby and a baby crying softly in the background, like from another room or something. I couldn’t help but burst out laughing and next thing, he just hangs up. Nice try, but you lot need to sort yourselves out!

Honestly, i doubt it was really hmrc, when have they actually rung me before? They always send letters in the post, never a phonecall. And that recorded message was just full of threats, like they're trying to scare you or something. No way it felt like a proper hmrc call.
