I got a message from something calling itself Windows Defender saying my laptop was locked and to ring a certain number, plus there was this loud warning sound. It told me not to shut down the PC. I ended up just switching off the laptop and when I turned it back on, all was fine. Whatever you do, don’t call that number!

Totally a scam. My elderly dad, who’s 89, got these bogus Microsoft Defender warnings popping up, saying his online banking info was at risk and to ring this number. Thankfully, he got in touch with me before doing anything else. If he hadn’t, they probably would’ve taken control of his computer and then charged him loads for “fixing” the problem. Avoid these tricks at all costs!

Dont answer this number, its a scam. I got a call with the same voice saying don’t shut down your computer, just like others mentioned before. My mouse was frozen and I couldn’t close anything. I had to force shut my PC off. After restarting, I ran a virus scan and luckily nothing bad showed up.

Had this loud alert about a Trojan, kept repeating non-stop. Said I needed to call Microsoft on some number they gave. Seemed pretty legit at first, but I knew better. Definitely a scam. I just hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete, closed the browser, and restarted it without going back to that page. Also cleared my browser history and ran my own anti-virus. Easy fix for me!

Had a nightmare with this one as well. My laptop just locked up so I called the number, and the bloke, calling himself David Martin, seemed only interested in scamming me out of money! I messaged McAfee on their Facebook page, and they said the number wasn’t theirs at all. After that, I cancelled my subscription because they ought to care about stuff like this, but they didn’t seem to give a toss! I ended up searching online on how to fix the error message myself, and now my laptop’s fine, but blimey, it was a bit of a shock! The lot behind this scam seriously deserve a good kicking!

Had me proper spooked at first. Suddenly, this number popped up with a message claiming my laptop had a trojan virus and telling me to ring them. Bloody scammers. Best thing is to just restart your machine and use your legit antivirus to sort it out. Honestly, I’d fancy grabbing the tosser behind this scam with some pliers!
