I used to get loads of calls from these scammers and loads more besides. Then I got a BT phone with their guardian feature that blocks numbers. If a number isn’t saved, the phone asks the caller to say who they are first. Scammers never bother doing that, so the phone just doesn’t ring. If someone actually says their name, you get to decide whether to pick up or not.

So, this lady called saying her name was “Josh” (bit strange as she was clearly female) and said my Hotpoint washing machine was faulty. She wanted my bank details to fix it under warranty, claiming their system showed it was broken the whole time. I couldn’t help but laugh on the phone. Then she just told me to get lost in a really rude way. Some people are just lovely, eh?

This number called me too, a guy who sounded Indian claiming to be from Nationwide Building Society. When I asked him to verify, he just hung up. That makes me think this number is really risky and might be trying some kind of money scam. I’ve never had a Nationwide account myself.

Got a silent call just now, and it drives me mad! I'm on edge, expecting an urgent call about a serious matter. These jokers deserve to be punished in the worst way possible. I’m retired and waiting anxiously for news about a big brain operation my sister-in-law’s having. On top of that, I’ve got family stuck in a blizzard, and I’m proper worried! I received a rather unpleasant call from a chap named William Smith, who had a noticeable Asian accent. He was quite insistent on getting my postcode. When I requested him to repeat himself, he rudely snapped back, "Are you deaf?" before abruptly hanging up on me. Quite the cheek, I must say!

Got a call from some woman claiming she was from BT internet saying my data had been hacked or something. I told her I’m not even with BT, called her a total scammer and asked her how the weather was in London before telling her to get lost. Can’t stand these dodgy scammers!

Whenever I receive a phone call from an unknown number, I answer with "Good morning, West Yorkshire Police here, how can I assist you?" My mates are always like, "You're having a laugh, that's not true." The dodgy callers usually just hang up straight away. After that, I block the number. For anyone using older CPR blockers and have misplaced the little instruction leaflet, the code to block the last number dialled is ##2##2# - type it exactly as shown, no brackets included.

Got a call from someone who sounded like they were from an Indian call centre, second time in two days. They wanted me to verify my name and postcode, but while the name was spot on, the postcode was for a place we moved out of about a year and a half ago. I refused to give any details, and the caller started threatening to ring me every single day until I complied. Their tone quickly got pretty nasty. Luckily, we use BT Call Protect, which is a free service, so we’ve blocklisted that company’s number now.

Early this morning I got a call woke me right up, then later the same number called again. A lady with an Indian accent said she was from 'the washing machine department'.
