My number’s not listed anywhere and I’m on the TPS list as well. A lady rang up asking if I had a moment to chat about a survey on home tech. I thought, seriously? Go on, I’ll just tell her about my big 65 inch telly, my phone and laptop, and then get robbed next week! So, I just ended the call there and then.

On the evening of Tuesday 26th January 2016, around 8:48pm, I got a call from the number listed above. The caller said they were conducting some research about interest rates and asked if I could answer a few questions, to which I said yes. After that, there was silence, followed by a couple of clicks and a faint electronic buzzing noise before I hung up the phone. When I later dialled 1471 to check the number, I did get it, but also heard a weird message I’d never come across before. The message said “you are now connected to” and then it repeated my own telephone number.

Got a call from this number around 8:36 pm but it didn’t show up on my Caller ID, so I just let it go to voicemail.
I guess something about my greeting scared them off because they ended up hanging up without saying anything.
After seeing what others said about it, I’ve gone ahead and blocked the number - hopefully, that’ll stop them from calling me back!

I think this number belongs to a company that does market research for loads of different businesses and maybe even some government bodies. The company is called TNS, and they’ve got a website where you can contact them to ask for your details to be removed from their records. All you need to do is put in your first name, phone number, and an email address you’re happy to give them - if you don’t want to use your main email, you could create a separate Gmail for this. Then just leave a message like “Please remove me from your database,” check the box agreeing with their terms, and hit send.
