I got a call about insurance for my washer, sounded dodgy from the start. As soon as I told them I wasn’t interested and didn’t have any insurance, they just hung up on me right away. Definitely feels like a scam trying to trap you into paying for something useless.

So, this number rang me and some bloke named James claimed he worked for an insurance company covering our washing machine. I’m in sheltered housing and the machine is in the shared laundry room. It seemed odd that he’d call me instead of the maintenance team who actually look after it. I tried ringing him back to check what it was all about, but all I got was a message saying ‘the number you’ve dialled isn’t recognised’. Pretty clear scam if you ask me.

My phone went to voicemail and the call dropped right before leaving any message. You could hear background noise like it was coming from some kind of call centre.
