3 yearsYesterday, while I was on my laptop, a warning suddenly appeared on my screen saying I needed to call a certain number because my computer was at risk. I couldn’t close the message or even switch off my laptop, it just stayed there. I ended up calling the number, and spent nearly two hours on the phone with someone. Near the end, they asked if I did online banking, which I don’t, and that’s when I started to get suspicious. As soon as I mentioned I didn’t handle any money online, they just hung up. Looking back, I feel a bit daft for not hanging up on them sooner but I was panicking since my whole screen was locked. I’m 71 and not very confident with computers. I’ve got McAfee protection, so it surprised me that anything on my laptop could be so badly affected.
