I just wanted to point out a new way to report phishing emails introduced by the National Cyber Security Centre. Sadly, phishing is still a common trick scammers use, so be careful and trust your gut - if something feels off, it probably is. If you receive any dodgy emails, please send them over to [email protected]. And if you get any suspicious texts, you can report them free by texting 7726 from your mobile. There’s a helpful video below from the Regional Cyber Crime Team that explains more about phishing and how to use this new reporting tool.

So I got a phone call from a bloke with an Indian accent saying he was from the FCA. I told him straight up he sounded like a spammer but he seemed confused about why I'd say that. Then he started going on about how I was meant to get £3000 back from my bank. He even said someone would turn up at my house the next day, and that’s when I ended the call. Funny thing is, I’d only turned off my Sky Shield half an hour before, and now it’s switched itself back on.

I told them right away it seemed like a scam. They asked me why I thought that. After a while I said I needed to hang up since I was expecting a really important call. Honestly, I shouldve just ended it sooner. They were talking about some bank refund supposedly from overcharging me.

Got a call today about some kind of 'bank account overcharge refund' - sounded way too dodgy to be true. They kept pushing for my details but thankfully I hung up before giving anything out. Definitely a scam, be careful!

Got a call from some bloke named Dave Kumar claiming to be with the FCA, telling me I was owed about £2500 from my bank. Then he mentioned some Julie Green who’s supposed to drop off a cheque and some paperwork later today. Not expecting much, to be honest. I can see how this sort of thing would really fool older folks or those who aren’t so clued up.

I just finished a call with some bloke who said he was Sam Spade, claiming I was due £3000 because my bank (which he never actually mentioned) had overcharged me. I didn’t ask for any of this and it felt dodgy from the second he asked how I was and kept calling me ‘ma’am’. I’m half expecting him to turn up tomorrow with a cheque, but trust me, Julie Green’s name and my dog aren’t going to be forgotten anytime soon. Haha. Seriously, don’t buy into any of the rubbish they’re selling. Total scammers. Be careful out there, folks.

Got a voicemail earlier from this number saying they’re from HMRC and accusing me of dodging tax, threatening arrest! They said to press 1 to talk to a police officer. Absolutely cheeky and bold - no one even knows about any tax issues on my end! This kind of call could freak out people who are vulnerable or easily tricked. By the way, I’m based in coastal West Wales.

I got a call at my folks' house, some lot claiming they were owed cash and that they'd be dropping off a cheque. Total scam, these people just trying to scam. Steer well clear of them!

This bloke, Surinder Singh, was offering me what looked like bogus plane tickets, acting like he was from some big travel agency. I wouldn’t bother dealing with him at all. He's already been reported for this dodgy behaviour.

I got a call from someone pretending to be from a legit travel agency, trying to flog bogus flight tickets. It was totally sketchy, like they were just copying the names of real companies to trick people. Definitely sounded like a scam to me.

Got a call earlier today from some bloke called Peter White, who got really narked when I questioned him. He claimed I was owed £2,500 but needed to buy an iTunes card to cover £125 tax. Just a heads up to all, this is definitely a scam. (11-9-2017)

Today I had a similar call, someone claiming I was due £2500 from Halifax. I played along because I knew it was a scam. Watch out for people using names like Mr Green or Tom King, it's just a trick!

My elderly neighbour has a very sick granddaughter, and this number won’t stop ringing her phone. She keeps thinking it’s her family trying to get in touch, but it’s just causing her a lot of upset. What on earth is BT doing about these calls?

I had a horrible experience when I questioned their service, the caller started getting really rude. Now I avoid answering any calls from anyone who sounds Indian or Pak*stani. It’s obvious most of these calls come from call centres in India.

Got a call from this number earlier, and I played along for a bit. Eventually, the bloke warned me that if I didn’t comply, he’d ring my wife and claim I was phoning other women and having a flirt. Lucky for me, she was right there listening. I joked that I always did stuff like that, but then he got rude, so I just ended the call since I’d run out of clever replies.

I've had loads of calls from people saying they're with the Financial Ombudsman and that I’m owed £3,000. That’s rubbish because I never had any PPI, nor have I ever complained about it. It’s all a scam, don’t trust them. Just hang up straight away. I’ve already told the Financial Ombudsman and also reported it to Action Fraud.

Got a call from someone claiming to be from a government dept telling my folks they had £3,500 owed to them and that they'd be sending a cheque later that day. They got really worried and left the house. When I called the number back, it said Ministry of Justice. Totally a scam, no doubt!

Earlier today, I got two calls about 15 minutes apart while I was out. Since I was waiting for a call from my bank, I decided to ring back the number. The guy who answered was really rude, and when I asked where he was calling from, he said he couldn’t hear me properly and told me to call again because my voice sounded "crackly." Then, when I asked why he just hung up, he did exactly that. Fingers crossed calling back didn’t charge me anything!

I was told I’d be receiving a £2500 refund from RBS in the form of a cheque sent straight to my home. The solicitor’s name they gave me was Thomas King, and the claim handler who called was Ben Green. When I asked if I could just pick up the cheque myself since I’d be in London the following week, they said no way, wouldn’t give me any address! They also told me I’d have to pay £150 to HMRC using some kind of prepaid card once I got the cheque. After hanging up on them a few times, they kept calling back, then tried to convince me there was a county court in my town - which there isn’t. Eventually they gave up and just muttered ‘your loss’. Oh, and they wanted to see ID when collecting the cheque. Definitely a classic con or identity theft scam in my book!

I got a call saying I was owed £2500, but first I needed to buy an iTunes card for £125 to cover some sort of tax to the inland revenue. They mentioned someone would visit my home to hand over the cash. They even gave me a solicitor’s name and a reference number to make it sound legit. The caller claimed to be from the Ministry of Justice!!! This happened today, 7th August 2017, here in Plymouth.

These lot are just vultures, trying to scam folks with some daft promise of £3,000 PPI payouts from the so-called 'Ministry of Justice'. What a load of rubbish. When I pushed back, they kept ringing me non-stop and turned nasty, even threatening to charge me the refund if I didn’t accept. Honestly, who do they reckon they're messing with? Stay well clear of these muppets.

I got a call saying I was owed about £3000 and they were really pushy about it. Claimed to be from some government office and said I had this money coming. Every time I hung up, they rang back straight away. It was creepy how much info they had on me, like my date of birth and where I live. I told them to just send a cheque in the post but they wanted to email me the paperwork. So, I gave them a fake email address and then blocked their number.

Honestly, best thing is to just block this number and not answer back. They’re definitely up to something dodgy and if you engage with them, you might get caught in their scam. They keep ringing over and over once they know you’re there, so just ignore it and move on.
