I recently had an unsettling experience with a call claiming to be from Windows tech support, which turned out to be anything but trustworthy. The person on the line, representing some so-called Home IT support, alarmingly informed me that my computer had been compromised by hackers from Russia. They had me log into my computer, gaining control over it, and proceeded to demonstrate how my system had been breached. As if that wasn’t enough, they then recommended some network security solutions that felt rushed and overly aggressive. They quoted me £204 for a seven-year package and £95.99 for four years, including tech support for three devices. It only took a moment's research to discover that the number they called from was actually linked to a Microsoft scam. Now, I'm left feeling anxious they might have accessed my PC and could potentially use that to perpetrate further scams or fraud against me.

This dodgy outfit is pretending to be a Microsoft-endorsed service, claiming they can resolve a non-existent issue on my computer. They're insisting that I power up my device and hand over my login credentials. The callers, who are definitely not locals, are using English names to make themselves sound legit. Steer clear of these scammers!

I’ve just had a call from this number as well. It appears to be the same situation detailed in the earlier comment. I declined to power up my computer, and he mentioned he’d get in touch again. The call came through at 3:40 in the afternoon today.

I received a rather dubious phone call recently. The chap on the other end, who had a distinct Asian accent, claimed to be from the technical department regarding my computer. He stated that they were affiliated with Microsoft. I told him that I frequently receive similar calls and that I’d seen them feature on Rogue Traders on BBC1, where they were exposed for being scammers. When I pressed him about why they always block their numbers and what their actual identity was, he handed me a website and a phone number. The number he provided was 02081442035, and the websites were www.homemastersit.com and www.homeitmasters.com, neither of which turned up any results in a web search. It seems these calls are often from individuals with Asian accents using English names. They go on about fixing alleged Windows errors for free, and then imply that there are more services you might find appealing afterward. Surprisingly, Microsoft has never heard of them.
