I had a call come through from 02081441380 at about half two in the afternoon on 12th November 2018. It was a recorded voice, a woman with an American accent, purporting to be from the Inland Revenue. She insisted that 'time was of the utmost importance' and urged me to consult a solicitor before returning her call! Complete con. Missed their call yesterday and rang back today. They said they were from the HMRC investigation team. I asked for an extension number so I could ring back through HMRC’s official line, but the bloke started getting shifty and then the line just went dead. I asked his name, he had a thick Asian accent but said he was Michael Johnson. Told him straight up he was a scammer and blocked the number. Watch out for these ones.

I got a text on my phone claiming to be from HMRC saying I shouldn't ignore their call. What they don't realise is I actually work for HMRC and can tell anyone who gets a call from this number it’s definitely not how HMRC does things. Just ignore it - loads of scams out there where they try to scare you about unpaid taxes to get your details.

Terrible call - it really unsettled me. I felt something was off because I hadn’t got any letters, yet they were threatening to shut down my bank accounts, passport, and driving licence within hours. They kept pushing hard at first. I hung up, looked up the number and found this site. I’m reporting it to the Police, Action Fraud, ICO & HRMC (even if it takes ages to get through!). They shouldn’t be able to carry on like this, loads of vulnerable people wouldn’t know what to do in situations like this.

SCAM ALERT: Got a call from 02081441380 and it was one of those automated American voices saying they were from HMRC and the agent was called Claire Wilson. They told me to ring them back. PLEASE REPORT THIS TO ACTION FRAUD ON 03001232040. I reported it and they said the more people complain, the quicker they can start looking into these scammers. PLEASE DO AS I DID - REPORT THIS NUMBER TO ACTION FRAUD ON 0300 123 2040. I told them about the call and the guy at Action Fraud said the more complaints they get, the faster they will start looking into these scammers. It only takes about 5 minutes to make a phone report and it could really help stop these crooks from fooling vulnerable people, like our grandparents or parents, who might panic and end up handing over loads of money to these fraudsters.

Got a call from this number earlier today, said I owed £4800 for tax evasion and threatened legal steps if I didn’t pay up. They even knew my old address which freaked me out. I rang HMRC straight away and they told me it’s a scam. I’ve also reported it to the police through Action Fraud. This is really dangerous! I’m worried about older folks or anyone vulnerable who might fall for it and lose cash or get really stressed. Don’t be fooled, don’t send them anything!

My tip - just block it, delete the messages, tell people about it, and forget it.

My mum got one of those calls claiming to be from HM Revenue saying she’s done some big fraud and they’re coming to arrest her soon. I told her to just hang up and block the caller because the dates they mentioned made no sense, she wasn’t even in the country then. Plus, the email they sent sounded like a robot talking 🙄. They’ve now rang me about 3 times and left the same voicemail 4 times. Just block the number and don’t pick up, it’s total scam!!

So, he said the total was about £4890. When I wanted more details, he mentioned around £3000 was back income tax and the rest was legal charges, but couldn’t give a clear explanation why. When I asked why I hadn’t had any letters about this, he first said it’s their new rule to ring before posting anything, then he switched up saying they had contacted me back in June and even had someone visit my place.

Got a call from someone named Claire Williams, but it was an automated voicemail. When I rang back, I ended up speaking to a Michael Carter, who had an Indian accent. He claimed the message was left by a voicebox because Claire Williams supposedly had throat cancer and uses a voicebox - bit of a strange excuse! I asked for the address and he gave me one that was over five years out of date. I asked what I should do now and he just said nothing, cos apparently the police were tracking the call and I’d be arrested in 30-45 minutes, even tho he didn’t even know where I lived! He went on about all my assets being frozen and my bank accounts getting blocked, and that I’d have to attend a hearing the next morning. I said, "Is this some kind of joke?" and then he went quiet. I just called Vodafone after getting this number popping up and wanted to file a complaint. They told me if you text 'call' to 87726, they’ll look into it. Plus, you’ve got to report it to Ofcom as well. Handy to know!

Got a call from this number earlier, saying the cops were heading over to arrest me. I asked them to send me some official papers through the post since I hadn’t received anything yet. That’s when the bloke started sounding dodgy. I then asked what it was all about anyway, and he said something about tax evasion. I told him I pay my taxes and had no clue what he was on about. Then he just told me to “f*** off and wait to see what happens”, then hung up. It’s not the first time I’ve had a call like this either.

Got a call out of the blue from some bloke claiming to be from HMRC saying I’ve got unpaid taxes and debts. I asked what he was talking about and he just started telling me to shut up. Honestly, it creeps me out that he had my name and number. What a nasty piece of work.

I haven’t been phoned by these scammers myself, but I did get an email from them. There’s actually a fraud reporting service on the official HMRC website, though it’s a bit tricky to find among all the pages (watch out for dodgy websites pretending to be HMRC). If you get a call from this number, I’d recommend reporting it to HMRC so they can look into it.

Got a call from this number, some guy with an Indian accent answered and said it was HMRC, but the line kept dropping out. Then they even called me through this Viber app, which I thought was a bit odd. Just a heads up to watch out!

Just like all the previous calls, the guy had an Indian accent and said he was ringing from HMRC. He started talking about clearing up some income tax errors for about £3,000 to avoid court. I told him I was pretty sure he wasn’t legit and asked him to send a proper letter to both me and my accountant. After that, he didn’t say anything and just went quiet, so I ended the call.

Hey everyone, if you get a call from 020 8144 1380, just ignore and block it straight away. Some bloke from India was trying to pull a scam, asking for cash. I found it funny, didn’t waste time chatting. Best thing is to just put that number on your block list! :)

Had this really rude bloke from India ring me up, proper cheeky too. When I told him that C&Revenue doesn’t ring folks and that it sounded like a scam, he went ahead and called me a ‘f...n’ butch. Honestly, been getting loads of calls like this for the past couple of months, it’s ridiculous.

Got a call from a bloke with an Indian accent saying I had debt with HMRC and if I didn’t pay up, the police would come after me. I told him actually I work at HMRC myself and asked what his name was. Not surprisingly, he just ended the call. Obviously, blocked that number straight away!

What a nightmare of a call! Some bloke rang me up pretending to be from HMRC, gave a fake name and said I owed over £3000. When I told him that was impossible, he instantly started shouting and swearing down the phone. It's really quite sad to think that guy's stuck doing this kind of thing... Makes me worry someone more gullible might fall for it.
