I put up an ad on Gumtree yesterday and today this number called me twice about some accident supposedly involving me. I asked them details like the location of the accident, the car involved, and if they could tell me the registration plate. Suddenly the line filled with static and then dropped out. Bit suspicious, innit? They must reckon we’re complete mugs!

I received a call from someone claiming to be from HMRC, insisting that I had some outstanding taxes to pay. When I inquired about which country this was in reference to, the chap at the other end became rather irate and abruptly disconnected the call. I tried to ring back straight away, but there was no response. After several attempts, I noticed the status of the number shifted from ringing to a message saying they weren't accepting calls anymore. It’s infuriating to think these con artists can just operate like this! I’d love to expose them for what they are and I’m curious to know how they got hold of my phone number in the first place.

Loads of folks have been telling me they've got missed calls from my number, but I haven’t been the one calling. Turns out someone’s faking my number and ringing everyone. It’s been driving me mad with all the messages from people saying they got calls from me.

No sooner had I put my ad up on Gumtree than I got a call asking if I'd been in an accident. I told them yes, I was stuck at some traffic lights when it happened. Then I asked how they got my number and they claimed it was from my insurance. I asked who my insurer was and they couldn’t even get it right. So I played along messing with them for a bit before they hung up. Blocked the number straight away.

I put something up for sale on Gumtree and almost immediately got a call from 02081337699 about some accident and compensation stuff. Then about five other calls came in from different numbers all within a few mins. I told them to take my number off their list and to stop calling me. If I manage to get through to Gumtree, I’m definitely going to report this!

Then just a minute later, he rang again and I had to be clear that I didn’t want these calls. Bit concerning, especially if there's someone living alone who might be more easily scared by this.

I got a call from this number saying I’d been in an accident and had compensation coming. I told them to take me off their list straight away. Then, they called me back but from another number, saying exactly the same thing and using the same company name. When I insisted they remove my number because of new regulations and explained I hadn’t agreed to keep my details, they refused and became quite rude. It got so bad I just had to end the call.
