2 yearsI got a call from what sounded like an automated Fraud Team at Co-op Bank, which also covers Smile Bank. They asked me to verify some personal info, like my name and part of my birthdate, to prove I was the account holder. Some questions came in a multiple-choice format, but it was clear they already had the right answers in the system (it even let me try again if I wanted!). They never asked for my full account number or PIN, which would have set off alarm bells for a scam. In my case, the call was to double-check if I’d authorised a fairly large transfer I made earlier that day. The system knew the exact details and just asked me to confirm it before ending the call. I don’t believe this was a scam, but I get why people might be suspicious. If you’re still unsure, I’d recommend calling the bank directly using the number on their website and asking to speak to their Fraud Team - though be prepared for a bit of a wait on hold.Fraud Prevention TeamCo - opSmileFraud Team3 yearsGot a call from someone saying they were from Smile Bank’s fraud department.Smile Bank3 yearsHello, this is the fraud department from SMILE bank, we're just checking a transfer payment with you.SMILE3 yearsThis number has rung me twice today. The first time I just let it go to voicemail, which luckily sounded a bit off. I checked and my bank’s never used this number before. What’s freaky is they actually knew my name. Since I’d just done a couple of transfers, I thought it might be my bank calling. If I had answered straight away, I don’t think I’d have spotted it was a scam. I rang my bank’s fraud department and they confirmed the number isn’t theirs. It feels too coincidental given the transfers I made last night - looks quite dodgy to me.3 yearsGot a call out of the blue from 020 8125 4039. They mentioned my bank and said there was suspicious activity on my account, then told me to press any button to keep going but the call dropped. Definitely wasn’t my bank’s real number. Total annoying spam call.4 yearsToday I got calls from this number like six times, all about some supposed fraud with my bank account. Total scam, don’t fall for it!4 yearsGot an automated call claiming there was a transaction on my Co-Op Bank account, but it was totally fake. Obviously, it was a scam so I just hung up straight away.Co - OpSubmit Your Own Report (020 8125 4039)
