Genuine companies confirmed these calls are fraudulent. Victims are urged to verify support contact details independently and avoid granting remote access or making payments to unsolicited callers using this number. This scam is sophisticated but widely condemned and should be treated with utmost caution.
Reports on phone number 02080904980
2 yearsI received a call purporting to be from HP support, with the caller insisting on a payment of £130 for a year's worth of protection. They were quite persuasive, though also very aggressive in their tactics. Thankfully, I refrained from sharing any of my banking details with him, but I was alarmed to find that he had somehow gained control over my computer.HP2 yearsI’ve just come to the rather unpleasant realisation that I was duped last November (2023). I was experiencing some issues with my Canon printer, so I hopped online seeking assistance and mistakenly thought I’d landed on the official Canon website. What followed was an online chat that escalated to a phone call with a chap who ended up taking over my computer. He claimed to have tidied it up and even set me up with Norton Anti-virus, promising a five-year subscription for a hefty price - which, as it turns out, is merely a one-year deal. A couple of days ago, this same gentleman rang me from this number, saying he needed to carry out some updates on my system and would require remote access again. I told him this wasn’t a good moment and arranged for him to ring me back later this week. Meanwhile, I’ve reached out directly to Canon, who confirmed that it's all a scam, so I’ve since blocked the number.Canon2 yearsI shared my phone number on a site that seemed like Canon because I was struggling with getting my printer sorted. Then, I received a call from someone who claimed they could assist me but insisted on gaining remote access to my computer. That's when I realised something wasn't right!Canon2 yearsAbsolutely dodgy! Steer clear of this lot. I confronted them and they turned quite hostile, asking me for my passwords in a bid to seize control of my device. They terminated the call pretty abruptly. What a bunch of inadequate individuals!2 yearsI've encountered a similar situation myself. Initially, the call I received from Canon appeared quite legitimate. Thankfully, I managed to catch on to the fact that it was a scam before it was too late. Now, I can't help but wonder whether Canon has any involvement in this.Canon3 yearsI received a call from someone supposedly representing Canon while I was experiencing issues with my printer. However, they didn't seem to have a clue about which model I owned. The person was pushing me to download some sort of 'driver' for configuring my device, but it all struck me as suspicious. I decided to cut the conversation short and promptly blocked their number.Canon3 yearsI received a call purporting to be from Canon UK, supposedly to help me set up software for my new printer. To my dismay, they then attempted to pressure me into parting with over £250 for a network security service. Naturally, I declined their offer. I later verified with authentic Canon UK representatives, who informed me that the number was linked to a phishing operation. What a total scam!Canon UK3 yearsReceived a dodgy call from a number masquerading as Canon UK's customer support. They tried to convince me to shell out £250 for some so-called "Trusted Canon Network Security Programme." After I got in touch with Canon directly, they assured me it was all a scam. Definitely a fraudulent line to avoid!Canon UKCanonSubmit Your Own Report (020 8090 4980)
