Definitely a HMRC scam. If it was legit, they wouldn’t be using a robotic voice, plus you’d get a letter beforehand. They’d say your name properly and know your NI number and tax details.

Just got a call on my landline from this number. It was an automated voice saying it was James Anderson from HMRC, threatening me with all sorts of horrible things. I ended the call and then tried 1471. What really gets me is that I use Talk Talk’s Call Minder to block unwanted calls, but somehow this one still managed to get past it!

These are scammers, so best thing is to just ignore and then block the number. If you’re using an iPhone, you can do it easily by going to the recent calls list, tapping the little "i" next to the number, scroll down and choose "Block this caller". Definitely do this with any dodgy calls like these.

Got a call from someone claiming to be The Crime and Immigration Officer, called James, saying I was being investigated. They warned me I’d face serious trouble if I didn't call back. But they never gave me a number to ring, so I had to use 1471 to find their number, which was 02080892575. It really scared me, but I didn’t return the call.

Got an answerphone message earlier today. The person sounded really posh and spoke perfect English, saying I was being investigated. Said there’d be really bad consequences if I didn’t call back. Left two messages. It sounded legit enough to make anyone anxious and call them. Clearly a SCAM though, so glad to see others recognise it as well. They really need to be put an end to.

Got an automated voicemail from a man with an English accent on my landline today, saying “lawsuit filed in your name and you are being investigated. For details call 02080 892475 - number repeated - if there’s no reply, tough legal trouble will follow, thanks.” A similar call was left on my 80 year old mum’s phone last week with a female voice, which really upset her. Luckily she called me right away and I told her to just ignore it and delete the message. This kind of thing has to be put an end to immediately!!!
