I just encountered a right dodgy character, who rang me up with a strong Asian accent claiming to be from O2. He tried to con me into giving my bank details by saying I was eligible for a 30% discount on my phone plan. Absolute nonsense! I’ve blocked the number - 02080798024.

Got a call saying they were from O2 but then asked for my full security code before they could help. Pretty obvious dodgy scam trying to hack into accounts, watch out!

On 11th May 2023 around 4.39pm, someone rang me from this number claiming to be with O2. They asked me to read out a code from a text message, which I never got. Since I’m not even an O2 customer, I quickly figured it was a scam. I reckon their trick wasn’t about any actual text but more about pulling you in by saying ‘you haven’t got the text, so we need to verify your ID’ or similar.

You can send a report to 7726, which will help alert the phone network about suspicious calls. Sadly, the option to report scams directly through the police's 'action fraud' site has been shut down - probably to save money? If you’re annoyed about that, maybe raise it with your MP. Even though we can’t use that system anymore, you can still email screenshots of scam messages to the cyber crime team at '[email protected]' in addition to reporting them via 7726.

Got a call from a guy claiming to be from the 02 billing team, but he sounded dodgy and I told him I wasn't interested. Pretty sure it was a scam, so I just blocked the number.
