They said they were from some government office, but when I asked them to say it again, they just repeated the same thing. Then I told them I had no clue who they were, and they just ended the call. Definitely some sort of scam, probably marketing related.

They buzzed me like 5 times within two hours but never dropped a message. When I rang back, it was from another phone and the person claimed to be from something like Vefiform or Veriphone (hard to catch the name). Sounds like one of those PPI schemes to me.

This person was really intimidating, telling me I'd done something illegal and that I had to go to court or just cough up the cash.

Claiming that you're being looked into for something, yet again it’s someone from overseas, struggling with their English and butchering the pronunciation of names.
