Some bloke with a heavy accent called me from this 'Housing Repair Helpline', asking about repairs for my home. I told him straight up that I’ve never had anything to do with social housing and wanted to know how they got my phone number. He claimed the council passed it to their complaints team but couldn’t say which council when I pressed for details. Then he said digging up that info would take ages. When I mentioned GDPR and the Data Protection Act, he said he was aware but kept telling me I was wasting his time. Weird, innit?

When I picked up, all I heard was a robotic voice saying “bye,” so I’m pretty sure they’re just seeing if your line’s live. Then when you try ringing back, it says the number can’t be reached. Watch out for this one!
