I got a call about some supposed survey related to wills or something official from the state. Felt like a total scam trying to get my personal details. These kinds of calls are clearly just a way for crooks to grab info and then use it for ID theft or messing with your bank accounts. Be careful!

Got a call out of the blue from someone wanting to do a survey about the banks I use and any property I might have. Felt off from the start, like one of those dodgy inheritance scams. Definitely wouldn’t trust it, especially since it was a cold call.

Just to clear things up, Thornton and Baines Independent Financial Advisors aren’t some kind of scam. They’re a proper firm, fully registered with the Financial Conduct Authority under number 426513. They focus on Estate Planning, so don’t confuse them with Estate Agents.

Got a call from 02071830136 on 10th June 2020, but I couldn’t answer. Luckily, my mobile flagged it as a scam, so I just ignored it.

This number kept ringing me a few times. When I finally picked up, the person said they were from Thornton & Baines and insisted we had met before. They didn’t really explain anything else but kept pushing me to respond to their questions. I reckon they got my contact off some travel event in London I went to last year. I’ve blocked them now.

On the 11th of May 2029, at around 7.40, a bloke rang me up saying he had some legal documents for me and asked me to verify my postcode. I didn’t give him any details, told him I’d never dealt with his firm before like he said, then just hung up.

Got a ring from these lot saying they got my info from some event at Olympia. Honestly, I’m far happier with my IFA, who actually knows their stuff, rather than some muppet trying to blag their way to a sale without really caring. I’ve gone ahead and blocked the number now.

I looked up this number and it’s connected to Thornton and Baines, who have their offices down Kean Street near Drury Lane in London. They’re FCA authorised and belong to a recognised will writing group. Not sure about how they do marketing though, it might be a bit questionable. MF 04/02/2020

They just started ringing me every day out of nowhere. I’m not looking for any investment tips but they keep on calling me nonstop. Really annoying!

I think they might’ve grabbed my number from some holiday fair or something? The company’s called Thornton & Baines and their site looks pretty official, something like tabifa[###]. They were pushing financial advice on me, and even though I told them a couple of times I wasn’t interested, they kept on going until I had to end the call.

I received a call from a courteous gentleman named ‘Sean’, who specifically mentioned my name and sought to verify my address, claiming he wanted to send me some information regarding estate planning. He stated he was affiliated with T&B Estate Planners, which I later found out stands for Thornton & Baines Estate Planners. When I probed him about how he obtained my contact details, he claimed it was shared due to my supposed interest in estate planning. Honestly, I’ve never shown any inclination towards that, making his assertion rather dubious. I politely asked him not to reach out again and took the liberty of blocking his number.

My wife picked up the phone when it rang. A rather charming English voice on the other end inquired if I was Mr. (my surname). I responded, and he confirmed if I was indeed Mr. (my surname), going on to chat about some sort of planning. Then he asked for my postcode - the very one he mentioned nearly gave me pause! It struck me that this might be a dodgy call, so I hastily replied with a completely different name. He apologised profusely and claimed to have dialled the wrong number. Quite the close call, I must say!

It’s baffling that we’ve opted to be ex-directory yet we keep getting these relentless calls! We’ve chosen not to pick up, and they never bother to leave a voicemail, which makes it all the more mysterious as to how they’ve obtained our number in the first place. My mum decided to ring them, and they claimed to specialise in matters of power of attorney and inheritance tax. The thing is, nobody we know has passed away, and we’re certainly not expecting any inheritance! If there were any genuine concern regarding this, wouldn’t a letter have landed in our mailbox by now? It just doesn’t add up!
