Got a call from an Asian guy who then passed me over to an English lady. Definitely a rubbish scam - so I decided to mess about a bit and waste their time, which really seemed to annoy her! I held on for about 5 minutes before she hung up, swearing away :)

Watch out, I’m actually on the phone right now reporting this to HMRC. When you ring back, some really pushy Indian bloke picks up, says they’re checking if you’ve got a lawyer for a tax evasion case they claim HMRC is bringing against you. I’m guessing if you’d kept speaking, they’d try to charge you for ‘help’ or something. Total scam, steer well clear.

Got a voicemail from some bloke saying I owed HMRC and that my house was being watched, plus I was being taken to court. So I rang back, just playing along to waste their time. The guy kept spouting nonsense, then after a bit said I owed £1,230 and I had to set up a direct debit by giving my card info over the phone! I told him I’d just had a call like that and he asked for my mobile number, which I gave. Then the line just cut off. I tried twice more, same guy picked up, and when I repeated what happened, the call dropped again. So I looked up hmrc online and rang their official number. I spoke to someone who confirmed that hmrc would never operate like that. It’s clearly a scam. They said to report it at actionfraud police.uk, so that’s what I’m doing now.
