When I pointed out that we solely use Apple devices, the caller miraculously transformed into an Apple Security representative. He insisted we visit support.me and enter a six-digit code to ostensibly download software to 'rescue' our devices. He then provided a callback number so we could verify this with Apple Security-funnily enough-and when I dialled it up, I was greeted by another chap in what seemed like a crowded call centre. He fumbled through his speech, mumbling “This is, ummm, errrr, Apple Security?” and introduced himself as 'Mike Thomson,' though his thick Indian accent was impossible to ignore. When we rebuffed the idea of inputting the code and downloading the supposed file, his demeanor shifted dramatically. He became quite hostile and condescending in short order, threatening to disable our computers permanently. He even suggested we could “chuck them out of the window” or treat them like “footballs.” Can you believe it?
