Got a call about 8.30 tonight from someone who said her name was Anna and claimed she worked for Hotmail’s cyber security team. She explained that someone had contacted them pretending to be me and wanting to change my password. According to her, my account had apparently been used to send 91 offensive messages with illegal images, and that my password had already been reset twice. She tried to get me to log into my Hotmail account, saying she’d send me an email to follow up. I didn’t go along with it because I’ve heard too many horror stories about scams like this. She gave me the number 0207 096 8475 and told me to call back urgently. Does anyone know if this is genuine or if I’m actually in trouble?

Somebody said they were from Hotmail support wanting to know if I’d updated my password. I didn’t bother returning the call.

They called me back to back seven times in a row.

I had a rather perplexing experience with a foreign woman on the phone earlier. She was nattering away in such a thick accent that I could barely catch what she was on about, but she seemed to be asking if I was familiar with something she called 'coopfers'-at least, that's how it sounded to my ears. She then went on about how my computer was at risk of being hacked or some such nonsense. I was having none of it, so I told her to shove off and hung up. Of course, the saga didn’t end there. She rang me back and I reiterated my desire for her to leave me be. To my dismay, she continued to ring me-about six times in total. Eventually, I caved and answered her call, but instead of engaging, I just placed the phone down on the table, hoping she’d get bored and hang up. Eventually, she did, but what a right kerfuffle it was!

I've been getting relentless phone calls from a woman of Asian descent, insisting that our email and IP address have been compromised. It seems these individuals are trying to resolve the matter, but only if we cough up some cash.
