However, it quickly turned into a farcical situation when they tried to convince me to fork out £30 for some verification nonsense and insisted on my long card details. I chose to keep them on the line as long as I could, just to see where it would lead. Eventually, I couldn’t help myself and called him a massive fraudster, to which he retorted with some rather colourful language! I received a call from individuals posing as representatives of Carphone Warehouse, tantalising me with an offer that seemed too incredible to believe. They claimed to be part of a special promotions unit. Expect an email from them, but do take care to scrutinise the domain name closely. They ever so slightly modify it, as illustrated below, and many folks may overlook it entirely. DO NOT DISCLOSE ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION. Just today, I was contacted by some charlatans masquerading as a fonehouse company. Observe how they alter the domain names in their communications. The legitimate website is www . fonehouse . co . uk, yet the email I received originated from a different web address, with a sneaky 's' added at the end if you pay close attention. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME ENGAGING WITH THEM. MAKE SURE TO REPORT IT HERE TO help protect others from falling prey to this trap.
