02045771571 Summary (Read all comments)

Phone number ☎️ 02045771571 👆 is reported as a persistent scam involving automated or recorded calls claiming to be from housing officers about repairs or complaints the recipient has not made. Callers often use varied numbers beginning with the same prefix, with a robotic or accented voice, and hang up abruptly when challenged. Recipients are warned to avoid answering, never provide personal information, and block the number. Many phones automatically flag it as fraudulent. The scam appears sophisticated, aiming to confuse vulnerable individuals, with several reports urging thorough reporting to official bodies such as Action Fraud and the Cyber Crime Centre to help disrupt these widespread nuisance calls. Blocking alone is insufficient, as scammers frequently spoof numbers and persistently call.

What can we do to stop these scams? This has been talked about on this 4 page thread a couple of times already. I doubt anyone actually took any real steps tho. That’s exactly why these scammers keep at it. Even if just one out of every thousand tries works, they’re confident the other 999 won’t bother reporting, so the chance of getting caught is tiny. Sure, a few scammers do get nabbed eventually, but usually only after they’ve made millions. Have a look at the ‘Action Fraud’ news bits for more info. Like I said, the details have already been posted here twice!

This afternoon I got a call from 02045771571 on my private mobile. Not many folks have that number, so it must’ve been randomly dialed. The caller’s setup sounds pretty slick - the AI sounds quite advanced. I reckon the more people pick up, the better it’ll get, which means more folks might get scammed eventually. Best bet is to use a call blocker like Phone Guardian; otherwise just hang up, block the number and erase the call. I’ve already flagged this number to the fraud alerts team and the Cyber Security Centre.

Have a look at the 4 posts from 23/12 and about 16 posts from this one going down over two pages. They offer loads of info on these scams and how to handle them. If you won’t bother reporting these scams, then don’t moan about them later. These scams won’t disappear unless everyone sends reports straight to the cyber crime unit. One person reporting won’t make much difference, but if loads of people get involved and flood the police with reports, things could change - eventually. And the cops do actually look into at least some of the reports they get.

Total scam. Got a robotic voice saying, ‘Hi, it’s Mike from the housing department about the issue you mentioned.’ Thing is, I never reported anything and I live miles away from London. Take a look at the messages beginning with number 7 below this. If you’re not going to report these dodgy calls, then don’t moan about them. They won’t go away unless everyone reports them straight to the cyber crime unit. One single report won’t make a difference but if loads of people do it, it’ll make a big change over time. Also, just FYI, sending reports to ‘7726’ or your mobile network won’t get forwarded to the police, so there’s no official police record of the scam or the number.

I missed the call (I tend to avoid answering numbers I don’t recognise), but I’ve received quite a few from similar digits. One time, I had a ring from a chicken takeaway in London and another from some so-called "insurance" company hailing from Harrow! Considering I'm based in East Yorkshire, it all seems a bit dodgy! They didn't bother to identify themselves or their company, launching straight into a chat about issues with the property. We've been facing a problem and are currently negotiating with our insurers, so I wanted to clarify who they were and who sent them. They went on and on about some housing complaints department, which only added to my confusion. So, I pressed again, asking if it was my insurance company that had sent them. He agreed, but when I requested him to name my insurance provider, he abruptly cut the line. Quite unprofessional, if you ask me!

I got a call from 02045771571 but didn’t pick up since I don’t know anyone from London.

Got a call from someone named Mike, said he was with the housing repairs and wanted to discuss some issues I supposedly reported. Problem is, I don’t live in any council accommodation. Pretty sure it was a mistake.

Got a call from someone saying he was Mike, from the housing officers group, wanting to discuss some repair issues I’d reported at my place. I told him he must have the wrong number, and then he just hung up on me.
