Got a call from someone claiming I owed £9000 to HMRC, saying there’s an arrest warrant out and police are on their way to my address. To avoid getting nicked, he says I need to pay up immediately. Got a call from someone claiming to be the Department of Trade, but it felt totally off. They sounded pushy and asked for loads of personal info. Definitely a scam trying to trick people by using a fake official name. Be careful if you get anything like that, it’s dodgy for sure.

Got a suspicious call from someone claiming to represent the “department of business and trade”. Their English was pretty rubbish and the reason for the call made no sense at all. When I told them I wasn’t interested, they just kept saying “this is a very important phone call.” Felt really dodgy to me.

Got a phone call today, 27th August 2025, from someone claiming to be from Public Voice - I think folks also call it Kantar. The bloke sounded nice and asked if I could take part in a survey then and there. I get occasional emails from them and sometimes do online surveys, but this was my first time being asked over the phone. I said no thanks and mentioned that his number popped up as spam on my phone. After hanging up, I looked this number 02045575799 up here and noticed it’s sometimes linked to different companies too.

Got a call from a friendly sounding young bloke claiming he was getting back to me about a letter about some surveyor stuff linked to self-employed boat earnings. I told him I never got anything like that and he said he’d resend the letter. I didn’t buy it and told him I was pretty sure he wasn’t from HMRC, then asked him not to ring me anymore. Pretty obvious scam if you ask me.

Got a call from someone saying they were from HMRC doing a survey about self assessment. They claimed I'd already agreed to answer their questions, which I honestly don't recall. I looked up the number on the internet and loads of people are saying it’s a scam. So, I’ve gone ahead and blocked the number now.

Somebody rang up claiming to be from Amazon and asked for our Finance department. They even managed to get the name of our company and the finance manager, which was a bit creepy.

It was pretty clear that it was a call centre, there was too much noise in the background and you couldn’t really hear the woman properly. Someone was saying something about the Dept of Trade & Industry and asking for a manager. I told them we don't take part in surveys but she just kept pushing. Eventually, I had to hang up.

Somebody rang me claiming to be from the government, asking for the top bosses. When I said they weren't available, she kept pressing for a reply. Rather than giving her any info, I told her they’d been away on holiday for a couple of weeks. I've never had a real call from the government before, and frankly, if they did call, I'd probably be even less polite. Sounded like one of those dodgy calls from Starmer’s lot to me.

This number won’t stop phoning my folks, it’s pure hassle. I flagged it as a scam and nuisance, but they just keep at it. Luckily, the phone company marks it as nuisance so mum and dad don’t pick up. They say they’re some business advisor lot one day and then pretend they’re from HMRC the next. Tried blocking it but it still rings non stop. Seriously, this needs to be stopped - it’s proper annoying and feels like a total scam.

Got a call earlier today about some questionnaire for PIP - personal independence payment thing. I’m deaf, proper hard of hearing, so I couldn’t understand much. Asked a family member to sort it and they said I needed to fill out an online form to get vouchers or something. Don’t have the foggiest how they got hold of my number though. Got a call from someone named 'Eleanor' claiming to be with the 'Department of Business and Trade'.
