My smart gas meter from EDF broke around five months back. They put in a temporary one, then after about three months and loads of emails and WhatsApp messages, they swapped out both my gas and electric meters. It’s been seven weeks now, with even more WhatsApps, and I still have no clue about my energy use. Like a few others have mentioned, this feels like the complaints line for EDF energy. I ignored about 5 calls while at work, then finally picked up. The person had a strong Indian accent and asked if it was a good moment to chat (which was a bit obvious it wasn't since it took me 6 tries to pick up). I looked up the number afterwards and saw it was from EDF, a company I’m waiting to hear from about two separate issues. Both relate to my preference not to be contacted by phone. One issue is a complaint I made against EDF for discrimination due to my disability, which means I can’t use the phone properly. The other issue was about changing my payment details, something they said they’d handle strictly by email. Avoid picking up calls from these dodgy call centre scams, they normally come from some ethnic group pretending to be EDF or whoever is 'official' now. It usually rings about five times and then the auto dialler drops the call and moves on to the next number. Best thing to do is just not answer and block the number straight away.
