So I decided to have a bit of fun and kept the guy on the phone for around ten minutes, asking him who he was trying to reach. These ring almost every day around the same time and it’s takin’ a toll on my 82 year old mum who’s got mild dementia, partial hearing loss and some other health issues. Each time, it’s the same monotonous, automated voice claiming to be from 'bank security', yet curiously, no particular bank is mentioned. They always prattle on about some supposedly unauthorised transactions connected to my card-like a hefty £399 to Amazon and a staggering £1000 wiring transfer abroad. They urge me to press number one if I wish to authorise these fictitious payments. Without fail, I promptly hang up and block the number, yet without fail, they perpetrate the same deceit using another number! I can't quite discern if it's a full-on robocall, but it's certainly a fraudulent ruse. It’s rather frustrating, especially when you consider I’m on the Telephone Preference Service. It all feels a bit pointless, doesn’t it?
