This was an absolute con, claiming it was about PPI compensation from my bank for something like £2500 plus another £1500 in interest. When they asked which bank I used, I made up one called "Bank of Paris" (which isn’t a real bank) and they had no clue about it. They then gave me some sort of reference and ID numbers, told me they wouldn't ask for any card or bank details, and mentioned the money was in a "wallet". Later, I was handed over to another bloke with an Asian accent who asked for the ref and ID numbers again. I gave him some made-up ones, which confused him, so he then requested my phone number to verify. He gave me new ref and ID numbers, different from the first lot, said I wasn’t very tech savvy, and offered to help me access the “wallet”. Then the dodgy bit: he told me to put my phone on speaker and download an app called “anydesk” from the Play Store, which is basically a way for them to remotely access your phone and nick bank details, passwords, everything. These scammers really need to be rooted out and reported to the police and the FCA pronto. Stay alert!
