I got a call from someone claiming to be from the tax office, saying I owed back taxes from 2010 to 2015. They sounded pretty convincing, gave me a case number, a warrant number, and even a badge ID. They warned that if I didn’t pay up, my bank account would be frozen and even mentioned my car. Naturally, I got really worried. But it felt off because I hadn’t received any letters or emails about this. After chatting with my family, they told me it was a scam, which is awful knowing some people fall for it.

This number, 02039917242, left me a voicemail claiming they needed to discuss my national insurance number. When I called back, the person said if I didn’t hand over all my bank details to verify my identity, they’d involve the police and I could get arrested for not cooperating with a government agency. I’m in my 50s and it genuinely frightened me. I hung up feeling really shaken. Now I’m by myself and quite anxious because they also said they know my address.

Received a rather dodgy call regarding the suspension of my NI number and some case number nonsense. I reckon it's a complete scam! This definitely isn't from HMRC, so don't share any details with them. Stay vigilant!

Just to echo what’s been said, HMRC definitely won’t possess your mobile number. It’s a scam, pure and simple!

I just received a dodgy call claiming to be from HMRC, seemingly designed to send you into a tizzy. Whatever you do, don’t share any personal information with them. If you’re truly concerned about the matter, it’s best to reach out to HMRC on their official number-not the one these chancers provide during the call. Stay cautious!

The NIN scam has evidently evolved and seems to have upped its game. They've devised a system where they furnish you with a reference number that you’ll need to obtain and mention when making a call...

I've received a call that I suspect is a scam, supposedly from HMRC. They were talking about a supposed case and mentioned suspending my National Insurance number with the reference CP11692. When I tried to call back, the number seemed like it was registered in London, but the ringtone was rather peculiar, and when they picked up, they claimed to be from HMRC. Definitely raises a few red flags!

This is definitely a con! They’re after your name, date of birth, and address, along with your National Insurance number. They pretend to be HMRC, claiming it’s all about tax issues. Honestly, they’re so daft that they don’t even grasp that the fake birth dates I was using were far too young to qualify for paying taxes. Absolute nonsense!
