Someone called me pretending to be from my bank’s security saying there was unusual activity on my account. But when I asked her which bank she was from, she just hung up straight away. Classic bank fraud attempt.

Some unknown number rang me a few times this morning, bit too early for me to bother answering straight away. By the time I saw the call, it had already gone to voicemail but they didn’t leave anything. Tried to find info on the number but nothing came up, so I’m guessing it’s just some dodgy scam call. Didn’t bother blocking it though, figured if they keep ringing I might as well have some fun and keep them chatting for a bit, waste their time back.

I said I didn’t have that info with me. They seemed fine to wait but I ended the call. They phoned me two more times! When I told them I couldn’t provide the info and called them out for sounding like a scam, the call just got cut off. Be careful with these kinds of calls!

I've never actually bought appliance insurance, so I'm pretty certain it’s a scam trying to fish for bank info. Be careful and don’t share any personal information or even confirm what they already know!

Just like the previous message stated, I’m due a £119 refund for my washing machine warranty. I opted for a cheque instead, as I’m not one to share my bank details. I mentioned that she had all the necessary information right in front of her and could just send the cheque. However, she insisted on needing a reference number from my cheque book. I played along for a while, but eventually, she hung up on me. Although I’m 78 and quite knowledgeable about these tricks, I worry about others in my age group who might fall prey to such scams. It’s easy to recognise those calls are coming from India, yet I understand that some individuals, especially if they have hearing difficulties, may struggle to discern that. I have a genuine disdain for these fraudulent callers!
