Someone called me pretending to be from my bank’s security saying there was unusual activity on my account. But when I asked her which bank she was from, she just hung up straight away. Classic bank fraud attempt.

Some unknown number rang me a few times this morning, bit too early for me to bother answering straight away. By the time I saw the call, it had already gone to voicemail but they didn’t leave anything. Tried to find info on the number but nothing came up, so I’m guessing it’s just some dodgy scam call. Didn’t bother blocking it though, figured if they keep ringing I might as well have some fun and keep them chatting for a bit, waste their time back.

Someone rang me saying I was owed a refund because I’d been overcharged, telling me it was “my hard-earned cash” and I deserved it back. Then they asked for my bank details or card info. I said I didn’t have that info with me. They seemed fine to wait but I ended the call. They phoned me two more times! When I told them I couldn’t provide the info and called them out for sounding like a scam, the call just got cut off. Be careful with these kinds of calls!

This week I've had multiple calls from someone struggling with English, telling me I’ve supposedly overpaid £119 on appliance insurance (looks like others are getting the same story). I played along, said something like “oh wow, brilliant! Just send me the cheque then.” They then tried to say they’d connect me to their supervisor, but I just ended the call there. I've never actually bought appliance insurance, so I'm pretty certain it’s a scam trying to fish for bank info. Be careful and don’t share any personal information or even confirm what they already know!

Just like the comment above, I got offered a refund of £119 for my washing machine warranty. I did the same thing but told them to send me a cheque because I’m not about to give out my bank details. I said all the info they needed was right there, so a cheque would do fine. Then she said she needed a reference number from my cheque book. I pretended to go along with it, and eventually she just hung up. I’m 78 years old and fairly sharp, but these scammers could easily trick another elderly person who’s not so careful. You can usually tell the call’s coming from India, but some folks with hearing problems might not notice. I really can’t stand these scam calls.
