Got a call from someone claiming to be with Eon, saying I had to hike up the direct debit for my business because prices had gone up. Ironically, I’d actually logged into my Eon account the day before to lower the direct debit since I’m actually in credit. When I asked the bloke to send me an email because my English isn’t great, he just said he couldn’t and then hung up on me.

Got a call from what sounded like my electricity provider, but it was actually some dodgy energy firm trying to rope me into a new deal. I received a phone call today from someone claiming to be with British Gas Lite - and I happen to be one of their customers. However, the chap couldn’t even bother to confirm my name and just kept referring to me as ‘the business owner.’ He proceeded to inform me that despite my current contract, every customer would be facing increased bills due to some recent government ruling. He insisted on providing me with new pricing details and asked if I had something to jot it down. I told him I wasn't at my desk as I had just settled down for me lunch, and I suggested he send all the information via email instead. He then replied rather insistently that I needed to agree to the rates there and then, mentioning that the call was recorded and that he would send a confirmation after I gave my consent. I replied firmly that I wouldn't make any agreements over the phone, especially since he was interrupting my lunch during pub hours. I repeated my request for an email and then ended the call. Seemed quite fishy to me, and amusingly, I’ve not seen any email from them pop up!

Some bloke rang me claiming to be from my energy company and even had my account number right, saying the tariff had gone up. Luckily, I looked up this site before believing him. Heads up - the caller was really rude, super impatient, and had a proper awful attitude.

Got a call from a lady named Angela, sounded like she was from overseas and claiming to be with Claims Advisory Group. She mentioned my address and said I’m due some money that’d be paid straight into my bank. She gave me a reference number and said the manager would get back to me. I asked for more info and asked if they could send a cheque in the post, but she said that wasn’t an option. Figured it was dodgy, so I blocked the number.

I got a call from someone claiming to be at Currys PC World, saying I was chosen for something. When I asked for the name linked to my account, they just said it's associated with the number. I threw a few random questions their way and the person sounded a bit lost before they suddenly ended the call. They were trying to get my account info for sure, totally a scam.

I got a call from this number and a woman called Angela was on the line. She told me to buy a £200 Google Play card from a nearby shop. Then, she said someone would come to my place with a cheque for £3,500. When I said I didn’t want to go through with it, she told me to f*** off you idiot. This is clearly a scam and they obviously couldn’t care less who they target.

Got a call saying I owed £3500 in bank charges and needed to pay £200 at the local Spar using some kind of pay card. Told them I don’t even have a bank account, and then the lady just told me to **** off. The number they called from was 02039538389, and they said they were from some claims advisory service. Definitely a scam, be careful!

I figured I'd humour him and fed him some made-up info, just to see where it was going (and to waste his time so he wouldn't ring anyone else). I'll keep an eye out and update if anything comes of it - I doubt they actually need my bank info just to send a cheque for £3-5k!
