Got a voicemail this morning at 8.40am on 29/10/20, from a lady claiming to be Officer Sally Owens from Inland Revenue. Sounded American. She said I had to ring back straight away or there’d be legal trouble. The number she called from was 020 3992 9989. This was on my personal mobile, and I’m based in the West Midlands. Thinking of reporting it to OFCOM as it seems dodgy.

I ignored their calls since I don’t pick up for odd numbers, but they went ahead and left the exact same voicemail twice, sounding like some robotic Siri impersonator. Just had an alarming phone call from 02039236047, right about 8:10 in the morning, shortly after I sorted out an appointment for a blood test at Kingston Hospital. They insisted that if I didn’t return their call to “Inland Revenue,” I would face legal repercussions. To be honest, it seemed a bit dodgy, as "Inland Revenue" hasn’t been used in years; we now recognise them as HMRC. The timing of the call struck me as quite odd, especially following my earlier chat with Kingston Hospital on 07825054319. Curious to know if anyone else has had this sort of experience!

Received a call from someone purporting to be from HMRC, threatening me with legal consequences unless I returned the call. Strangely, the voice had a distinctly American twang to it.

I answered the call, but all I got was an automated message claiming to be from HMRC. I barely lasted four seconds before I hung up.

Received a phone call claiming to be from HMRC, threatening legal action unless I returned the call. When I did, no one picked up. I decided to reach out to HMRC through their webchat for clarity, and they informed me that it’s probably a scam since they only reach out using withheld numbers. Best to stay wary of such calls!

Received a voicemail claiming to be from HM Revenue and Customs, urging me to return the call and not dismiss it. I dialled them back and they enquired if I had legal representation, citing that I owed £4000 due to an allegation of tax evasion. 😂 My employer happens to be a High Court judge, so I found it all rather amusing. The operator quickly told me off for laughing, insisting it was no joke and that I could face arrest! How ridiculous! I can only imagine how terrifying this would be for someone older. It’s absolutely appalling!
