This so-called Officer Moniker Todd, sounding like a bad robot from an American film, was rattling off threats about the dire outcomes of not returning her call to the Inland Revenue immediately. Honestly, it’s laughable! Just hang up and make sure to block the number - total scam alert!

Someone rang me claiming they were from the HMRC investigation unit, saying they’d taken legal action because they’d tried to reach me multiple times. It’s definitely a scam and was pretty stressful! Best thing is to just hang up and not engage. They were convincing though - the caller even told me to check official numbers on the government site. Then, while we were still chatting, they rang back on a number that matched the one on the website. Loads of what they said didn’t make sense, and then they just ended the call. Watch out, they’re after your money!

I picked up thinking it was a work-related call since I’m working from home, but didn’t know the number at all. After a bad recorded message, I hung up and looked it up here. The person on the other end claimed I was being investigated for tax fraud. Being a lawyer, I was pretty taken aback. Then they told me to expect the police to come by with an arrest warrant, before abruptly hanging up on me!

This number has been ringing me quite a lot lately. When I picked up, the caller claimed to be from the tax office, saying I owed them more than £4,000 in unpaid taxes. That’s completely untrue since my taxes are already deducted at source. They threatened me with court and even prison if I didn’t pay immediately. Surely just another scam trying to frighten people into handing over money.
