So this bloke strolls into a bar with an alligator tucked under his arm, right? He asks the bartender, "Hey, do you serve P####s here?" The barman replies, "Yeah, we do." The guy goes, "Brilliant. Got a recorded call from someone saying they were from HMRC, saying I'd face legal trouble if I didn't ring them back. Felt like a dodgy scam to me.

I got a voicemail from 0203 890 2514, but it wasn’t a human voice at all, sounded like some sort of automated recording. The message said it was from Officer Denise Gray at the HMRC hotline, something about a division telephone number. They warned me not to ignore the message and told me to call back. They also mentioned if they don’t hear from me or my lawyer, they’d start legal proceedings. Ended with goodbye and take care. Feels a bit dodgy if you ask me.

At 10:27 on 2 Sept 2020, I got a voicemail from +44 20 3890 2514 claiming to be HMRC. They wanted me to ring back. They said if I don’t get in touch or hear anything from my lawyer, I might be in trouble legally. Sounds dodgy to me.

I blocked the number after a while, but before that I rang them a couple of times (with my number hidden, of course) just to mess about. After a bit, they started getting nasty back at me. Today at about 12:03pm, on 1st September 2020, my mobile rang and I also received two voicemails at once. Luckily, I had no credit left, so I couldn’t listen to the messages. The call was from a London number - I’m pretty familiar with all my mates and family’s London digits, so I felt a bit iffy about why they were calling. Big thanks to (who called me) for helping folks like us stay alert. Stay sharp, keep your guard up and don’t get caught out. Look after yourselves and stay safe!
