He introduced himself as Dean Winchester and insisted that my washing machine insurance renewal was on the brink of lapsing. According to him, his company was affiliated with my insurance provider and he needed to update his records, stating that I was a UK customer. There was a din in the background typical of a call centre environment. I pointed out that he already held my details, which meant there was no need for me to verify anything - it reeked of a potential scam. He retorted that it couldn't possibly be a scam since he had my name and number. When I inquired about when I acquired my washing machine, he claimed it was two years ago and a Beeko model - both facts were incorrect. I requested to speak with a supervisor, only for him to assert he was the supervisor and the line manager.
