I got a call on July 3rd, 2020 from a person who said they were Monica Todd from HMRC, using the number 0203 8808119. They said it was urgent and threatened that if I or my solicitor didn't ring back, there would be serious trouble. I recently received a dodgy automated phone call from a scammer. The message kicked off with, "As soon as you get this message…". Some individual claiming to be "Agent Monica Todd" from the HMRC insisted that I needed to have a word with her or my "retained solicitor". They warned me saying, “do not ignore this, and make sure you ring us back". If neither I nor my solicitor reach out to them on 02038808119, I was told to prepare for some serious legal repercussions. The voice had an American twang and felt rather disjointed, almost as if it had been pieced together from snippets of recorded dialogue. Don’t let yourself get caught out by these scams, I've had loads of calls like this and it’s just harassment at this point. So this bloke rang up saying he was from HMRC, saying I'd got to pay £4029 before 1pm or else I'd be blacklisted and all my accounts frozen. I was a bit bored during the lockdown, so I just played along with these muppets, who sounded like they might be from India or Pakistan. I ended up wasting ages of their time, but when they asked me to actually send the money, I stopped.

Got a call claiming to be from HMRC, so I decided to humour them. They actually got me to the point where they wanted me to arrange a payment through my bank. I gave them a bogus name, but somehow they still found my case info. They said the cops are coming to nab me in a couple of hours, so I guess I won’t be updating anyone. Weirdly, they didn’t ask for my address or any other personal info, just my name. When I finally told the guy I knew it was a scam, he just hung up on me.
