Sounds like a call from someone who said they were from the UK but had a really thick Asian accent, so hard to understand. Asked about the previous occupant, and when I said they weren’t there, he quickly switched to some sort of survey. Pretty obvious they just want to talk to anyone on the line. Blocking dodgy numbers is a good start, but honestly, you should report them too. It’s way more effective. All these scam calls need to be added to the police records. Just google ‘action fraud’, go to the ‘police.uk’ site, click on the button for reporting, choose the phishing section, then scroll past the scam email stuff to report the scam. You don’t have to sign up or anything. There’s supposedly over a million scam messages, calls and emails hitting us every week. Would be great if everyone reported these scams. Stay safe out there, everyone.

He already knew my postcode, name, and who my phone provider is. He asked me to confirm my visa card expiry date and which bank I use. I only gave him the date and bank name, but no card numbers or sort codes. Then he just hung up. I'm hoping the little info I gave isn't enough for him to use. Be careful, seemed like he was going to ask for more details but I kept pressing him and told him straight up it was a scam.

Just got a typical call from someone with an Indian accent, trying to sell me a super cheap insurance on my appliances. She was pushing this warranty on my TV, asking how old it was, I said around 10 years. Then she offered it for £99 for a year’s cover. I told her, that’s more than the TV’s value! Pretty obvious they just want your bank info to empty your account. As soon as I heard the accent, I knew it was one of those Indian scam calls. Be careful out there!

It’s becoming clear that phone companies everywhere are aware that phone numbers are being hijacked and technology is making it look like calls are coming from a local number when they’re actually from some other country. At the moment, there’s no real fix for this issue. Our advice is to not pick up unknown calls, let your voicemail take the message, and only call back once you’ve checked here or your own call logs. Just a warning, even if the number looks familiar, it’s possible your mate’s number and contacts have been stolen too.
