Got a call from 02038686843 but didn’t answer since I didn’t know the number. They didn’t leave any voicemail either. Normally I'd think it’s just some dodgy scam, but from what others are saying here, it seems like it could be the Economist, so maybe it's legit?

Got called three times today. I’m trying to sort a new electricity deal and spoke to a guy who said he was from Love Energy - I’d actually sent them a request before. Then the same number rang again but when I picked up, they just hung up. The bloke said he’d have someone call me back about the contract, so I’m a bit confused why he phoned again. He didn’t ask for any bank details or anything, so maybe it’s just spam rather than a full-on scam.

The Economist has a cheeky offer of a free month, touting the simplicity of cancelling your subscription. However, good luck trying to do it online - it’s a right faff! In fact, I’d suggest just cancelling your debit mandate altogether. Honestly, it’s quite appalling. I’m still reeling from how the Economist has lowered its standards to this level.

This number rang me on my UK mobile on 11 Aug 21. When I answered, the caller seemed to struggle to make himself understood, but was keen on finding out who he was speaking to! I ended up cutting the call and blocked the number straight away. I never got to hear what he wanted. Luckily, using some other tools I managed to track down where the number came from. Because he couldn’t clearly explain himself, a few people will be dropping by the address soon to figure out what’s going on face-to-face. I doubt he’ll be making many more calls after that. Karma’s got its ways!
