Got a call from this number on 10th June 2019 around 2.23pm. It was a robotic female voice saying something like... “This matter is very urgent. This is Officer Dennis Grey from HM Revenue and Customs. You can reach my department at 020 3856 8113, I repeat 020 3856 8113. Don’t ignore this message, call us straight away. If we don’t hear from you or your lawyer, be prepared for legal action. Goodbye, take care.” Honestly, such a nasty scam. HMRC would never phone like this, they’d always contact you in writing.

A caller claiming to be from "HMRC" got in touch about a Laura Bates, who apparently used to have my number. I told them as much and gave them my name, but then they started saying I owed £3900 and needed a solicitor straight away. That set off some warning bells for me. They kept going silent on the line, so I phoned back pretending to be Laura Bates. They seemed confused and repeated my name back to me. I said it all depends who they want to pay that bill, and then they just blocked my number. Definitely felt like a scam to me.

Seems like some Indian scammers are really fixated on Laura Bates, I’ve had calls from HMRC asking for her a bunch of times. I usually tell them she’s not around but if they fancy, they can chat to her eldest lad, master Bates. Maybe these daft muppets need a bit of help with their language skills.

Got a call from what looked like HMRC, but it was just a recorded message telling me to ring them straight away or else there would be serious trouble. It sounds pretty scary, but don’t be fooled - it’s definitely a scam.
