I unwittingly fell into a trap and ended up dialling this number. Earlier today, while I was browsing the web, a startlingly loud alert blared, accompanied by a pop-up claiming there was some trouble with my Windows 10 and Firefox. It went on to say if I didn’t call a certain number, I risked losing all my data. The number provided was 020 3856 7999. I decided to give it a ring and was met with a busy tone for over a minute before the call disconnected. I attempted to call again only to face the same issue. Growing increasingly uneasy, I rang my son, who warned me it sounded like a dodgy scheme, so I opted not to try that number once more. I ended up closing all my browser tabs and fortunately, my computer seems fine now. Still, I can't shake off the concern that I might have racked up a hefty bill from that call.
