My doctor suggested I get screened for cancer, so I've been going through the tests they recommended.

My GP’s office usually gets in touch with me directly if I need any screenings or tests, like NHS cancer checks. They always handle it themselves.

Got a call from what looked like an NHS number, they were chatting about cancer screening stuff.

Got a call from the NHS regarding lung cancer screening, they said it's for people who currently smoke or used to smoke.

Got a call about the NHS Lung Cancer screening for smokers, ex-smokers, and other high-risk folks aged 55 to 74. They asked loads of questions about my lifestyle - stuff like my height, weight, smoking habits past and present, family history, and even my education. After going through all that, they figured out my risk level and told me if I'd be called in for a scan. The whole questionnaire probably took around 10 minutes.

I phoned the number back and I can confirm it's definitely the NHS Lung Check.

I can confidently say this is indeed the correct contact number for the NHS Lung Health team. I've personally verified it with my local GP, who informed me that the team is conducting random assessments for smokers and those who have previously smoked to evaluate their lung cancer risk. I took part in a brief questionnaire to determine if I qualified for additional lung cancer screening, and they promptly provided their preliminary findings. Subsequently, I received a follow-up letter in the mail with the results. This is certainly not a fraudulent call; it's worthwhile to pick up the phone and engage with them.

Just got this message before I decided to ring the number. Looks totally official and from the NHS LUNG SCREENING PROGRAMME... Tried calling this number but my phone flagged it as a possible scam through its 'smartcall' feature, which made me hesitant. Just to clear it up, it’s definitely NOT a scam. The number is actually related to NHS lung cancer screening appointments.

I've confirmed that this number is genuine. I rang my doctor’s surgery and the receptionist provided me with it. Upon calling, I was asked several questions meant to determine if the caller should be considered for lung cancer screening.

I’m a bit uncertain if this is some kind of scam. They sent me a message claiming that since our last phone call, I hadn’t been spoken to. However, I've already had my lung health checked up - went through three scans, and was discharged after. They said it was handled by a hospital, not their service, and insisted I book an appointment with them. I refused and told them to reach out to my GP instead and have my GP get in touch with me. Somehow, I don’t reckon that’s going to happen.

I received a couple of calls from this number back-to-back, so I decided to pick up on the second ring. To my surprise, it turned out to be the NHS inquiring about a CT scan for my lungs. Rather than me sharing any details, they were the ones providing the necessary information and proceeded to schedule my scan. Seemed perfectly genuine!

Constantly receiving calls from this number. It's really quite frustrating!

If you’ve been called by this number, it’s actually from the NHS. They’re reaching out to people who smoke or used to smoke as part of England’s National Targeted Lung Cancer Screening Scheme. They invite you to get a lung scan through the NHS. The phone number they use is taken from your GP’s records, so it’s a proper and legit call.

Received a rather hasty call claiming that my doctor requested a phone evaluation??? Sounds a bit suspect if you ask me... Just like sheep being led to their doom.

I never picked up, but they left a voicemail saying they were NHS Lung Health. The number calling matched the one that’s been sending me texts for quite some time and seemed genuine.

If you’re not waiting for a call from the NHS, they probably won’t ring you out of the blue. It’s best to stay cautious about calls from unfamiliar numbers. Usually, NHS callers won’t leave a voicemail because health info is private. While it’s true that lots of silent unknown calls can be dodgy, not every one of them is a scam. Before you go and block any number, make sure you look it up first.

Adding onto what I said a week ago, I've just had a CT scan of my chest organised through the NHS. The number I was given to book it came from the NHS central booking office, linked with their new initiative for early lung disease detection. It’s the same number listed on the Ugov-NHS page. Apparently, they’re meant to send letters before making calls, but my letter showed up about a week after they phoned me. So far, there’s been no talk of money or payments, and given the scale of the operation and resources involved, it really doesn’t feel like some kind of scam.

I received a message from this number urging me to call about a health check supposedly linked to the NHS. Honestly, it struck me as rather dubious and not typical of the kind of communication one would expect from the NHS. I suspect it's a scam intended to trick people into calling the number.

Got a couple of texts from the NHS about lung cancer screening, said it was part of some new scheme with Royal Marsden cancer hospital for folks in Croydon. Checked on their official site and it seems legit. I've gone ahead and booked an appointment. They mentioned I'd get a letter to confirm it soon, and that the phone call will mainly be about medical history related to lungs. Not sure how it'll go yet, but I'll update once I know more.

On the 27th of December 2023, I got a message saying I was chosen for a lung health screening done with the NHS and my GP. I've got no lung problems at all, never been stuck in hospital apart from when I had my kids. My other half got the exact same text that day too. He’s fit and well, no lung issues either. We’re both in our late 60s and pretty active, so it seemed suspicious. Figured it might be dodgy and decided not to take any risks!

Received a message from this number saying I was flagged as having a lung problem and that I should call them for an assessment over the phone. My doctor had no clue about any lung issues and I hadn’t been contacted by anyone else. Sounds dodgy and nothing to do with the NHS, so I just ignored it and deleted the message.
