Got a call out of the blue from 0800 281 801 saying I hadn’t responded to a letter from Nationwide and asked me to ring 0203 830 1139. I looked up my Nationwide account online and found no recent messages or letters, so I’m pretty sure this was a scam attempt.

I got a letter for ID verification and took it to the bank. They checked it and told me it was genuine. Completed everything online, felt secure, and the branch staff confirmed it was legitimate.

Someone called saying they were from Nationwide and asked for my personal info. They couldn't give me any proof to back up their claim. I don't even have an account with Nationwide these days. Definitely wouldn't trust this call.

I got a letter from Nationwide about identity verification, same as others here. To be sure it wasn’t a scam, I rang a number I found on their official site, and they said the letter was genuine. Funny enough, it referred to an account I haven’t touched in like ten years. Honestly, they really ought to put this number clearly on their site so people don’t have to second guess it!

I got a letter from Nationwide asking me to verify my ID to avoid my account being frozen, with a phone number to contact. I followed the steps but then got a bit suspicious, so I searched the number and found this site with people worried about the same thing. I ended up ringing Nationwide myself and they confirmed the letter was genuine and the verification was fine. That’s just how things went for me, but I’d really suggest calling your bank directly next time before responding to anything like this - they’ll tell you straight away if it’s legit or not.

This number turned out to be real - it’s linked to an old account I set up over 25 years ago with my ex-wife’s info. Now I’ve got to figure out how to explain that to my wife now. Fingers crossed!

Got some letters saying I needed to provide ID to keep my bank account open or I risked losing it. Another one showed up addressed to someone else, but with the same message. I didn’t recognise Nationwide as a bank I’d ever used, so it felt dodgy. The letter seemed pretty official though, so definitely a clever fake. I googled the phone number from the letter on 'Who-called' and, reading what others said, I figured out it was a total scam trying to steal info.

They're still trying. I went to Nationwide and checked my account. Everything's fine and I don't have to give any more ID.

Got a letter from 02038301139 saying if I don't confirm my bank details my account would be shut down. Sounds like a scam to me, watch out!

So this sounded a bit strange to me at first, but after ringing the main Nationwide helpline for ages, they did actually confirm it was legit. It’s their Accounts Review Team calling, though I reckon it’s actually linked to their fraud squad and they keep it under wraps from the usual customer service staff. Best bet is to take that letter into a branch and check with them directly if you want to be sure.

Got a letter supposedly from Nationwide, and although the address was mine, the name was totally wrong. It claimed I had to verify my identity to stop my account from being locked, and included a phone number and a QR code. The letter looked legit, no obvious typos. When I rang Nationwide's fraud dept, they seemed more upset with me opening a letter with the wrong name on it, saying I might be violating GDPR, instead of taking seriously what I think was a pretty obvious scam trying to steal banking info.

I got a letter from my bank and called this number. I gave them a totally wrong second name and they still believed it was correct. Honestly, can't believe how careless some people are!

Got a letter that looked like it was from Nationwide, showing this phone number and asking for my ID and personal info. Bit dodgy since I’ve never had an account with them as far as I know. Definitely not sending anything back. The letter even sort of politely warned they’d close my account if I didn’t reply - which doesn’t even exist!
